Prenatal and Postnatal Testing for Cytomegalovirus Infection: Current Diagnostic Strategies and Recommendations
December 7, 2023 | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM ET

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus which rarely causes symptoms in immunocompetent individuals. However, women who acquire CMV during pregnancy can transmit the virus transplacentally to the fetus. Congenital CMV is the most common infectious cause of birth defects in the United States and can lead to pregnancy loss in severe cases. Identification of antibodies to CMV in the mother can help determine the risk of transmission.

This webinar will discuss recommendations and challenges in diagnosing congenital CMV as well as highlight the importance of avidity testing for the diagnosis of primary CMV infections during pregnancy.
